Intel's Eco-Technology Initiatives—Saving Energy through Embedded Computing
Intel® products and technologies will help you develop solutions that save energy and reduce the overall impact on our environment. Intel's leadership and development of environmentally friendly technologies, global standards and initiatives, and energy–efficient product performance is enabling customers to develop more environmentally friendly solutions and use technology as a business strategy to reduce the total impact on our environment.
In recent years, Intel® processors have become more powerful while reducing the amount of energy consumed. Breakthrough developments in processing architecture— such as high-K dialectic Hafnium and multi-core processing—have delivered remarkable increases in processor performance without a corresponding increase in power consumption.
In addition, Intel has developed several hardware-based technologies that provide a direct benefit to the environment. Built-in remote management capabilities, for example, enable a reduction in onsite visits for repairs and maintenance. This in turn reduces carbon emissions. This same technology enables remote turn on/turn off of systems, reducing energy consumption when not being used. Intel® power management technologies enable the processor to consume only the energy required by the workload. And Intel® Virtualization Technology enables workloads to be consolidated onto one platform, reducing the number of platforms needed and thereby reducing the amount of energy needed.
Additional information about Intel eco-technology initiatives is available below:
Climate savers computing initiative
Founded by Intel and Google, the Climate Savers Computing Initiative has two primary objectives: design of more efficient computing systems and using advanced power management settings on computing platforms. Uniting industry, consumer, government, and conservation organizations, the initiative is working to deliver increased PC and server efficiency for a globally shared and sustainable future.
Intel open energy initiative
The Intel open energy initiative was formed to align industry leaders in the application of technology and open standards in order to accelerate the global transition to smart energy. Intel is specifically working to accelerate the integration of and synergy between intelligent renewable energy sources, smart grids, smart buildings, and empowered energy consumers.
